Fanciers that have bought new pigeons last year are always thinking they have bought success.
When you own a loft that performs above average,it becomes increaslng more diffucult to bring in pigeons that can surpass the pigeions you already have or keep up with them.
Not every new purchase or gift pigeon is a good aquisition: If it is,it will appear in breeding and or race results. The stronger the loft ,the more problems you will get to strenghen your colony.
In order to achieve a top 5%/10% loft you must follow this strict rule. Cull Cull Cull.
They must fly & win to stay in our loft. No matter how much they cost,or how great their pedigree is,they must produce winners or they are eliminated. You must be patient developing a team of youngsters(125 miles to 420 miles) I then pick the winners and go down to the top 10% for old birds. I give them every chance to prove themselves or they are eliminated.
We select our flying teams by a simple rule of thumb.
A lot of ventilation in their flights,silky feathering,strong backs,tight vents,strong keel bones supple pink muscle,clear bright eyes,and optimal health. The rest is up to their brain,heart,condition and love of their perch.
