I have been in the sport since my teens. My Father was one of the top fliers from the early 50's through 1971. I left the sport in 1963 starting a family and expanding our family business that left no time for dedication needed to suffice in this sport.
I started again in 1997 purchasing supposedly top blood lines with strong pedigrees from (the horse traders)in the this sport.
After a disappointing season I went to Belguim & Holland.Spending three weeks there visiting all of the present day champions. I decided to start with The Hubans Family hand selecting 16 of their best. I then picked from The Wonder Boy of pigeon racing Eric Limbourg again hand selecting from his winners selecting 14 pigeons. Last but not least Gjis Peters "The Oily Man" Breeder of super "76" hand selecting 8 pigeons. In 1999 my results were promising winning two futurity band races and several club races.
Still not being satisified with the performance of my racing team. I returned to Belgium. On this visit i again went back to Eric Limbourg with a theory I read by accident in my dentists office about the famous race horse"Seattle Slew" After siring thirty some odd horses not a single one was a winner or showed any prospects on the track. But strangly enough three brood mares produced winners. They phrased this as skip a gene generation. I purchased five pigeons from Eric Limbourg's ninty thousand dollar cock. With no fascinating results. I purchased two grand daughters from this cock. One hen clicked producing three years in a row the 1st place bird in the LBR Band Race.
If you look at my early results I was okay from the 125mile station through the 250 mile station. Only on a fast 300 mile race were my pigeons there. Clearly showing I needed long distance pigeons.
The day I visited Jos Thone' was the luckiest day of my life in pigeon racing. I purchased sixteen pigeons from Jos leaving the selection to him. During that visit I met Arnold Moors. The Breeder of the 1st. International Barcelona ace 1999. He had both the sire'Kiuri" and the dam"Roxy" of "Arnold" . He also had the sire "Son of Volare "252" and the dam "Princess" Be 94-5196466 of "Arnoldus" World Champion 1996. He also had a sister of "Princess Be-95-5119959. Both Hens bred from "The Witpen &World Champion "Jacky Joyner. In this stock he had a sister of "Kuiri" Be-97-5293152"Minnie. Who is the dam of one of my Golden Couples. In bred To Kuiri producing Eli-00-if-0025 "Super Boy" Minnie Later became the grandmother of 1st La Soutrene 2002 after eight days in the basket. I purchased fivepigeons for $54,000.00 ist purchase 11 additional pigeons for $67.00 from Arnold Moors.
They were the necular of our foundation pigeons.
